How to Use the Debt Consolidation Calculator

Step 1: Existing debt plan

Enter total debt balance, a representative annual rate and a fixed monthly payment you will maintain. A blended rate simplifies multiple accounts; individual debts can amortize differently.

Step 2: Proposed consolidation loan

Enter new fixed rate, term, financed fees and cash-paid fees. The proposed balance includes existing debt plus financed fees. Confirm any home-secured structure before proceeding.

Calculate, compare and request a review

Choose Calculate to see your estimate. Change one assumption at a time and calculate again. Contact information is optional. Use the review form or Text a Question when you need help verifying the inputs.

How the Calculator Works

Existing debt is simulated at entered annual rate/12 with fixed monthly payment, capped at payoff, up to600months. A payment that cannot amortize the debt returns no payoff estimate. New principal=old balance+financed fees. New cost=interest on new principal+financed fee+cash fee, each fee counted once.

Example calculation

Hypothetical example, not an available loan offer. Moving $50,000 debt into a $52,000 new loan means $2,000 of fees are financed and bear interest.

How to interpret your results

Lower monthly payment may come from a longer term and can increase total cost. A home-secured loan places your home at risk; repaying old accounts does not prevent future reborrowing.

Assumptions and factors that change the result

One representative existing-rate model, fixed monthly payoff payment, no promotional rates, minimum-payment changes, taxes or legal program determination. Loan maturity limited to600months.

Frequently asked questions

Can a smaller payment still cost more overall?

Yes. A longer repayment period and fees can increase total financing cost even when monthly outflow declines. Compare both payment and total-cost results.

Do these results mean I am approved?

No. The tool calculates the entered scenario. Documentation, property eligibility, program rules and lender review remain separate.

What should I do when an input is uncertain?

Use a documented quote or clearly labeled planning assumption. Change one input at a time, calculate again, and request a review before relying on it.
